Wesley Snipes’ Blade Movie Trilogy Coming To Hulu In October

Wesley Snipes’ Blade trilogy is coming to Hulu in October. Though he’s primarily known for Snipes’ iconic portrayal in the films, the character Blade was initially created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan for Marvel Comics in 1973. Blade was first introduced in Tomb of Dracula #10 as a human-vampire hybrid and a member of Quincy Harker’s vampire hunters. In the comics, Blade used his vampire abilities and intense training to save the world from vampires, who sought to destroy humankind.

The vampire hero made his live-action debut in the 1998 film Blade, which garnered $131 million worldwide and led to two sequels, Blade II and Blade: Trinity. All three films were written by David S. Goyer and starred Snipes in the lead role. While critics’ reviews for the first film were mixed, Blade became a Marvel fan-favorite and was considered groundbreaking for being one of the first dark superhero movies at the time with its supernatural/horror element. The second installment in the series, directed by Guillermo del Toro, was considered by many fans to be better than the first. Snipes ended his run as Blade in 2004’s Blade Trinity, which was famously panned by critics and fans for its campiness and less-than-exciting action sequences. It also led to many rumors about Snipes’ bad behavior on set, some of which Snipes refuted. However, the trilogy is still beloved by fans, who now can rewatch the three movies come October.

Wesley Snipes, Ryan Reynolds and Jessica Biel in Blade: Trinity (2004)

The Blade trilogy dropping on Hulu comes ahead of Marvel’s reboot of the Blade franchise, set to star Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali as the titular vampire hero. Other than the lead casting, there has not been much more information surrounding the upcoming reboot. A director has not yet been chosen, though John Wick director Chad Stahelski has expressed interest in taking on the film.

The highly anticipated reboot will hopefully satisfy fans after the disappointing conclusion to Snipes’ franchise. While it will be quite a while before the movie sees a release, fans can rewatch the original Blade films come October 1 in anticipation of the reboot.
