Southwest Airlines Grounds 130 Planes Due to Weight Discrepancies

Airlines must calculate the weight of each aircraft before takeoff and use this data to determine take-off speed and flight operations. In January, the airline was fined $ 3.92 million by the Federal Aviation Administration for making thousands of flights with inaccurate weight estimates. As part of the punishment, the FAA said it would continue to monitor Southwest’s weight reporting, but it is unclear whether this latest move is part of this wider effort.
