British addition

Vösendorf (pts023/13.10.2020/13:00) – The native Brit has been the new Country Marketing Manager for IKEA Austria since mid-August. In addition to a lot of motivation and enthusiasm for IKEA, John brings 20 years of marketing experience with him. The 42-year-old wants to make IKEA even more attractive to customers with sustainable visions and ideas.

Even though he is still in his infancy at IKEA, he has been a household name in the marketing world for many years: John Oakley has looked after various international and national brands in the last 20 years of his professional career – most of them in Vienna . Most recently, he was Managing Director of a large, international media agency with well-known customers from the automotive industry and online mail order.

Visionary with a heart

Moving to IKEA was a considered move for John. He can identify particularly strongly with the company’s vision of creating a better everyday life for the many people. “With this vision in mind and the right mindset, IKEA has played an important role in supporting local communities over the past few months. This vision also means giving great importance to sustainability. As a father of three children, this topic is very important to me to my heart, “emphasizes John. He is looking forward to living and promoting this vision with enthusiasm: “I am sure that we will achieve a lot.”

Further expand customer proximity

IKEA as a brand is unique to John in many ways: “IKEA takes you on a journey. Everyone has their very own IKEA story to tell. No other retailer has it in this form.” He sees the good starting position in marketing at IKEA Austria as a big plus for the Swedish furniture company. He sees potential above all in branding combined with data-based 1-to-1 communication in order to achieve his goal of getting even closer to customers in great strides.

Mountain bikers, kart drivers, dad

Professionally, John loves challenges: He really gets into projects where he and his team can achieve something big with the help of data and creative ideas. He also likes to challenge himself privately. He is an enthusiastic mountain biker, retired kart driver and father with heart and soul.
